Natural vitamin E is preferred over the synthetic vitamin E in food, feed & pharmaceutical applications mainly due to its higher LD. It can be isolated from deo-distillates, using molecular distillation technology. Deo-distillates are obtained at the time of refining edible oils.
Similarly, sterols (vitamin D2) can be separated from the same deo-distillates by cool - crystallization technology. Vitamin D2 replaces expensive Vitamin D3 in food and feed applications.
After the seperation of tocopherols and sterols from deo-distillates, the free-fatty acids can be trans-esterified to produce bio-diesel, which is again a value-addition. At the time of making bio-diesel, Glycerine is also separated.

The combined project with a capacity to process 4.5 tons of deo-distillates per day into 200 kgs of 90% tocopherol, 200 kgs of 85% sterols, 1,000 litres of Glycerine and 3,000 litres of Bio-diesel per day will cost Rs. 3 crores, with a pay-back period of less than 3 years.
